Workplace Health & Safety Coordinator The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) provides primary health care, including chronic disease management, health promotion and disease prevention. Serving 33 First Nations in the area, SLFNHA supports and contributes to a strong health system by providing a variety of essential health services to the people of Northern and remote communities. The Workplace Health & Safety Coordinator will play a critical role in building, implementing, and overseeing health and safety programs keeping employees safe and reducing preventable injuries. This individual will prepare health and safety strategies, develop policies, carry out risk assessments and liaise with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations. In addition, this individual will manage the Workplace Health & Safety Committee, deal with complaints, oversee benefits, and facilitate training. Perform initial intake interviews with all clients, accessing the outpatient service through completing psychological assessments to identify any issues. . Conduct inspections to ensure health and safety requirements and governmental legislation is being followed at all times. . Investigate accidents and produce subsequent reports and recommendations. . Continuously ensure policies and procedures are being properly followed and implemented. . Ensure staff are up-to-date in training, research; plan, organize, and conduct training programs and deliver subsequent training. . Develop and review health and safety rules, policies and procedures in accordance with site, company and government regulations and legislation. . Maintain accurate documentation, ensuring safety-related training records, accident reports and other documents are completed and stored properly, track the increase/decrease of on-the-job accidents from year to year. . Develop policies that clearly outline what is expected of managers, supervisors and employees with regard to safety such as hazard reporting processes, accident investigation procedures, and basic safety rules. . Attend seminars/workshops that discuss new regulations and safe practices. . Ensure proper health and safety audits, inspections, and investigations are conducted that appropriate risk identification, assessment, and control measures are in place. . Investigate, resolve, and implement corrective actions to all breaches of standards or procedures or any non-compliances or observations. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS . 3-5 years' workplace health and safety experience preferably in a healthcare environment. . Current and valid Health and Safety designation issued from an accredited organization within Canada, such as CSO and NCSO. . Experience working in a First Nations community and ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout Zone would be an asset. . Excellent communication skills, able to clearly convey information to multi-disciplinary teams. . Knowledge of First Nations' people, history, culture, health and social issue. . Demonstrated organizational skills and highly detail-oriented. . Accountable and dependable with sound decision making and judgement skills. . Natural problem solver who is comfortable handling conflict who is firm, fair, and objective. . Highly developed interpersonal skills, calm, resilient, adaptable, and able to embrace challenges.
