Nodin Child and Family Intervention Services provides counselling, support and intervention services to First Nation children, youth, adults and families from communities served by the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, who are experiencing social, emotional or behavioural problems. Nodin CFI is a mental health resource available to 33 First Nation communities in the Sioux Lookout region, the majority remote fly-in access only. Community individuals may also travel from their communities for a short stay in Sioux Lookout to receive mental health support from a multi-disciplinary team (e.g. mental health counsellors, art therapist). The Clinical Psychologist is part of this team and is responsible for administration of psychological tests, assessment, diagnosis and treatment/prevention of mental disorders. If you are interested in providing mental health services in both the municipality of Sioux Lookout and directly in the First Nations communities, then this is the job for you! RESPONSIBILITIES: . Perform initial intake interviews with all clients, accessing the outpatient service through completing psychological assessments to identify any issues. . Arrive at a conceptualization or diagnose disorders using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials. . Generate reports including treatment recommendations using information gathered through intake interviews, file reviews, and consultations. . Review assessment findings and recommendations with clients, and work in collaboration to define goals, treatment plans and necessary referrals. . Review reports with the rest of the Outpatient team to help them understand and formulate therapeutic processes to help clients prevent and relieve psychologically based experiences of distress. . Help implement treatment plans and provide individual and family psychotherapy. . Attend regular case planning meetings with the Outpatient team and case conferencing as necessary with other external partners. . Help victims of traumatic situations get the social, emotional, medical, and psychological assistance they need to recover from their traumatic experiences. . Help children, youth and families to develop appropriate coping skills that facilitate recovery and ability to cope with future traumas. . Assist families and caregivers to understand the nature, treatment and prognosis of mental health conditions and discuss methods of management and coping. . Liaise with First Nation communities, local hospital, federal and provincial programs and services, community agencies, and other organizations for the purpose of developing strong partnerships and continuity of care. . Develop educational or training programs to deliver to staff and First Nations communities to improve knowledge, build capacity and strengthen client care. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS . Degree in Clinical Psychology from a CPA/APA accredited program . Registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario . Training and experience working with trauma, addictions and mental health . Keen understanding of Indigenous customs and cultures . Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information and ideas so clients will understand including using dialects of the Sioux Lookout region . Must be able to diagnose and have authorized area of practice in Clinical Psychology with client populations of children, adolescents and adults . Experience with culturally diverse populations; knowledgeable of First Nations people, history, health priorities and social issues . Ability to assess complex cases systematically, identify key factors and underlying causes, diagnose, and formulate treatment protocols .
